In these competitive times, innovation is everything. And it’s no secret that CIOs must be the enabler of that innovation and an agent of change and growth — whether that’s driving new opportunities to engage customers, attract investors, streamline manufacturing or expedite time to market.

Isn’t that exactly why we leverage trends like mobility, virtualization, and cloud computing? Sure, they’re new and shiny, and it’s (almost) always exciting to explore new technology trends. But when it comes down to it, we innovate for the opportunities they present. We innovate to better position our businesses, to drive revenue and to ultimately outpace our competitors.

So as technology leaders — as the drivers of innovation — we must always be on the lookout for new ways to ready our organizations for agility. One means to that end is open source. Open source is the ultimate platform for flexibility, right? A platform that affords us the agility we need to quickly adapt as technology evolves, business demands expand and markets mature. A platform that allows us to innovate how we want, when we want — rather than innovating on the path and at the pace of our vendors.

That is, making our own path of innovation. And it’s exactly that kind of initiative that can up-level our business regard from passenger to driver.
